DCSoftware, Inc. is proud to announce the general availability of ARCTOOLS/400™ v6.1. This new version of ARCTOOLS adds tremendous capabilities to this revolutionary data archiving utility. ARCTOOLS allows AS/400 and iSeries shops to optimize their disk utilization - moving rarely accessed data 'out of the way', thus speeding up production systems while still making it easily available to production reports and inquiries.

Version 6.1 includes the following new features 

RulesWizard™

The RulesWizard is a tremendously powerful utility. It allows multiple files to be brought together to determine which records meet the purge criteria. Sales order purge criteria such as:

can be quickly and easily entered into the RulesWizard. These rules are then used to identify records that meet the purge criteria. The results of the analysis can then be used multiple times to purge data from many different files. For example, the results could be used to archive data from the sales order files, the shipment history files, various audit trail files, etc. Both the analysis and purge steps run without locking files, so users can continue working!

JoinWizard™

The JoinWizard™ component of ARCTOOLS is somewhat similar to the RulesWizard™ except that it brings two files together – a ‘driving file’ and the file to be purged.  The analysis and purge are accomplished in a single step.

An example of how this might be useful would be when purging customers and related data.  Archived customer master file records can be used as the driver for JoinWizard - cleaning out other files like sales orders, shipment history, invoices, etc. JoinWizard™ runs without locking files, so users can keep on working!

ReorgWizard™

ARCTOOLS/400™ integrates with DCSoftware’s ReorgWizard™ product.  The ReorgWizard™ reorganizes physical files without locks.  Reorgs can be run in increments if necessary, and the throttle function ensures that the reorg doesn’t interfere with other activity on the system.

Many AS/400 shops don't purge for several reasons, such as the purge programs don't exist and there is no time to write them. The biggest reason shops don't archive is because the users won't let them. This is due to the need to see historical information on various reports and inquiries. With ARCTOOLS, historical data can be archived out of the way of the production environment and easily made visible to those few programs where it's really needed.
